Dear University of Florida community,
In recent days, 18 people, many a part of the Asian and Hispanic community, tragically lost their lives in two mass shootings in California. We grieve this unimaginable loss. As a UF community we acknowledge, respect and value the many cultures that make up the Gator Nation. Across the country, the shootings have sparked feelings of fear, anger and sadness among members of our University of Florida community. These shootings along with those at Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay bring the number of lives lost to mass shooting in the U.S. to 40 so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
To those who are experiencing difficulties with these tragedies, UF cares deeply for you and your well-being. If you or someone you know needs additional support, please consider connecting students with Campus Assistance and Resources for Empowerment (CARE), and faculty and staff with the Employee Assistance Program.
