UF affected by Canvas cybersecurity incident

May 7, 2026

As you may be aware, the Canvas Learning Management System is currently experiencing an outage due to a recent cybersecurity incident targeting Instructure, the parent company of Canvas.

This incident is not isolated to the University of Florida and is affecting more than 8,000 educational institutions worldwide.

UF leadership is aware of the situation and is monitoring it.

Instructors: If you are teaching classes during Summer A, Summer C or Summer A/C semesters and Canvas is still experiencing an outage on Monday, you are advised to establish communications with your students. One direct method is to establish a listserv for your classes. Advise your students how you will be conducting classes until the situation is resolved. In-person classes should continue to be conducted in person. Online classes may be conducted via Zoom or TEAMS.

Additional information is available on UFIT’s Technology Resources webpage and support is available from the e-Learning Support team.

Students: If you are enrolled for Summer A, Summer C or Summer A/C, all of which begin Monday, May 11, please look for communications from your instructors regarding how classes will be conducted if Canvas is still unavailable on Monday.

If you need further assistance, you may contact the UFIT Help Desk at (352) 392-HELP (4357) or helpdesk@ufl.edu, or visit the UF Help Desk webpage at Help Desk | Information Technology - University of Florida.

In addition, be alert for phishing attempts or unexpected messages that appear to be from Canvas or other university systems. Report anything suspicious to the UFIT Help Desk by calling (352) 392-HELP (4357) or emailing helpdesk@ufl.edu.
